Quality of Education and Student Life Index (QESLI)
QESLI was created to emphasize that the student experience is an essential criteria for evaluating the success of an institution.
QESLI is a summary measure of average achievement in two key dimensions of the student experience: academic experience and non-academic experience.
The academic experience dimension is assessed by academic climate, academic development, school resources. The non-academic experience is assessed by student growth, skill development, and school community.
QESLI is comprehensive yet concise, and can be administered alongside other standardized tests. It provides metrics for the student experience that can be measured alongside academic performance and other indicators of school success.
The QESLI can be used to question national policy choices, asking how two schools with the same level of academic achievements can end up with different student experience outcomes. These contrasts can stimulate debate about education and government policy priorities.
QESLI can also be used to identify areas for improvement, and to measure the success of improvements already made by schools and school districts.
